Character and Personality 9: Summary and Clarifications [A20]

I think it will be better to summarize and try to frame in a slightly different way – as we usually do, from another point of view or following another process – what I have presented in previous meetings.

So, let's see -- somewhat along the lines of that famous encyclopedic diagram which I sent you a long time ago how is it that we arrive at the constitution of the character and of the personality of the individual.

It all begins the moment the individuality moves down to the physical plane to have a new incarnation. For individuality to move you know it is necessary that there is the support, obviously, first of all, of Vibration First, which all Reality constitutes.

Once this First Vibration succeeds in constituting all of Reality, every little particle of Reality begins its evolutionary path: mineral kingdom, vegetable kingdom, animal kingdom and man. When he begins to incarnate as a human being, you know that there is the constitution, little by little, of the Feel and of the conscience, or of the Akasic body.

You can consider this akasic body a kind of memory in which all the experiences that the individual carries out in the course of his various lives are stored, but this could mislead you: more than the experience itself, in the akasic body are stored – you know that - the understandingsor the fruit of experience with life within the physical plane.

It is from this state of understandings that the akasic body gives the push to descend into matter until it covers itself with mental, astral and physical matter, in order to constitute an individual within the physical plane, to be able to make new experiences, acquire new understanding and to ensure that this new experience that he is going to live can give him answers for what he still does not consider satisfactorily understood and inserted into what is his reality.

In order to gain experience, the individual needs to manifest within the physical plane, and manifesting means being able to interact with experiences and with the reality he faces through the material tools and bodies he possesses.

You also know (because we said it, and science also said it, on the other hand) that the physical body is structured in a certain way because its structure is predetermined by what the DNA, from its genetic chain and lately it is being discovered, a little at a time, that not only the physiological, physical structure of the individual is determined by DNA, but also what are its emotional, emotional qualities and therefore - by transposition - the strengths or weaknesses of a certain person.

At present we are perhaps exaggerating a little, from that point of view, because it is thought that, being able to intervene on the genetic chain, it is possible to modify, change any character and personality component of the individual, while in reality this is not quite the case; but let us leave this subject alone, which would lead us too far afield.

The fact is that the genetic chain - as science also knows by now - helps the formation of a specific physical body. So far, nothing new. What was new that we had added is that the genetic chain is not made up only of elements of physical matter. How could it be otherwise?

All matter that you know is actually made up of, interpenetrated by other matters: from astral matter, from mental matter, from akasic matter and from matter even of the highest planes, up to including all the subtlest matter, even the Whole, because In reality, from a certain point of view, the Whole can be considered the finest matter that you know, the one that permeates, the one that penetrates all the matter of existence. 

This means that even the genetic chain, even DNA, has its physical component, its mental component and its astral component, therefore we can consider the existence of a physical DNA, Astral DNA, Mental DNA, which are those that activate the typical characteristics of the astral body, the mental body and the physical body of each individual. 

Now, we had said that the character of the individual can be considered that sort of basis of DNA that comes from previous understandings or also, possibly, from experiences made in other kingdoms of nature which are not only the animal kingdom and which, therefore, vary depending on how the individual has completed his journey and, being closely linked to the individual's need for understanding, those particularities of the genetic chain are activated which allow him to have the body best suited to interact with the experience it has to live. And by this I mean that he must necessarily have the most suitable body not only physical, but also the astral and also the mental one, obviously.

So, consider – which you never do – that when you interact with reality, you interact in the best possible way, or at least in the most helpful way you could interact to receive understanding, to have the possibility of understanding, and this at all levels, from the physical to the emotional to the mental.

Therefore, on the DNA there are these characteristics which constitute the basis that we have called «character» – and which are practically fixed, as if you had been given a package of options that you may or may not use but which are there anyway, at your disposal when you need them, or feel the need to use them.

Some are automatic and are activated automatically, others exist because they come from your understandings and therefore are part of your assets, of your abilities. So this is the basis of how you are. Obviously, in order to interact with reality what is necessary?

Your bodies need to express themselves in some way, so these options, these basic characteristics that you have as a character need to manifest within the experience that you live according to what your needs are, your understandings under the influence of all the elements that lead you to constitute what is your reaction to experience.

Here, this reaction of yours to the experience, this of your constituting yourself beyond what is your understanding, this of your structuring your way of representing yourself, of relating to the reality that surrounds you, this is your personality

D - From what you say, io I think I understand - and please tell me if it's wrong - that the characteristics, the aspects of the character also include those things that must "lead" us to understanding, therefore a datum of the physical, astral or mental body will be that datum the result of a misunderstanding, relating to those things that we have not understood at all and that we must experience in order to "get" to understand them.

I would not say, I would say that your character is mainly made up of a positive endowment, or from all the things that your akasic body thinks it has understood, believes it has understood – obviously, it cannot be sure that it has understood, because it does not yet know its entire reality – and therefore it endows you with these gifts which, as all gifts, then, can be used well or badly, to understand or to avoid understanding.

That's where your personality comes into play, your interaction with existence, with your ego, with others archetypes and with all the elements that affect your behavior; and it is not from character, not from the constitution of your character that you can understand, but from the interaction.

D - So from the personality.

But not even from the personality: how your personality reacts to the experience; but at the outset – I repeat – the character cannot be judged or qualified as positive or negative, the character is an endowment of elements that are offered as a basis, from which to build; however, they are the bricks that must then be put in place, they can be put in place, used or pulled or stacked in a positive way.

D – If a person is born with the character drive to be a nurse (for example) well, this does not mean that some higher destiny «orders» her to be a nurse but that probably, behind this desire of hers to be a Nurse, there's something you still have to understand, there's the famous "misunderstanding" that will have to make you understand.

[…] A person who feels the urge to try to help sick people. What is this? It is an altruistic drive, obviously, therefore it means that in the character there is some building block, some gene, some gift dating back to a part of understanding that the individual has reached, which drives him to try to be able to help others from the point of view of the disease.

This, however, does not mean that that person has to be a nurse, for example; it means that this drive will become - when it manifests itself on the physical plane - the need to be a nurse, the need to do volunteer work, the need to be attentive to the needs of others, the need to always try to be good to one's other people. So you can manifest in many different ways, depending on how the outside and inside of the individual react to this inner drive coming from the character.

D – So also according to what the environment allows you to do.

Let's also remember one thing: let's not forget that, however it may be, there is an ego that comes into play. What does this mean? It means that this altruistic desire that exists in the character could actually then manifest itself in a not truly altruistic way, it could not be helping others because one feels that others really need help, but a need to feel important, a need of gratification.

The famous "passive observation» which has given you so much trouble in your discussions, allows you to observe not only how you behave but also how you react, therefore it gives you every opportunity to observe who you really are and, therefore, to discover both what and the your ego tends to cover, to hide, to modify, but also what actually comes from your character as a real drive.

D – So everything revolves around discovering one's ego, what the reactions of the ego entail and ultimately also what they trigger, however, because there are reactions of my ego which, in turn, trigger other reactions. I have to keep those in mind too.

Certainly: keep these in mind too, in one's behaviour, but always remember that what matters to oneself is one's own reactions; those others can observe, try to understand, but it is difficult to truly understand them, also because one does not know what character endowment the others have.

Remember that you have to look at "your" reactions, first of all. Those of others, yes, you can try to understand them, to do something, to interact, however you will never really understand them, because they are not yours!
