The start of the interior search: the question of meaning, the need for God [IB1]

Fable of the seven brothersi.
Once upon a time there were seven brothers. These seven brothers had always lived in a very religious family and on the day their parent died - a few years after the mother of these seven brothers died - all the brothers found themselves grieving around the body of their father.

They talked to each other about what had happened and wondered what they could do to honor his memory.
Discuss and discuss at the end one of the brothers said: “We could do one thing: we have always heard about God and all these beautiful things, but I think that actually none of us are really sure that God exists.
So, in honor of the father, let's go and look for proof of the existence of God. "

It immediately seemed absurd to the other brothers, but the youngest, who was the one who had the idea, insisted so much that in the end he was able to communicate his enthusiasm to all the others as well.

So they made an appointment at a given time on a given day of a given year in the market square, and each of them set out in search of God.

The first brother went to look for God at the top of the Himalayas, climbed the mountain under a blizzard, explored dark caves, entered the snow but, just as he was about to get to the top of the mountain, put one foot wrong and fell sinking into the ice. .

The second brother went to seek evidence of God's existence at the bottom of the sea. He went with the pearl fishers under the ocean waves, he went on the submarines, he went on the submarines and just while he was on a submersible a huge storm suddenly hit him and the bathyscaphe broke the cable with which he was tied and settled forever. at the bottom of the sea.

The third brother went to look for proof of God's existence in libraries; then he began to leaf through the books, went to look for ancient dusty manuscripts and spent a lot of time in these libraries trying - through written words - to recognize God, who, little by little, forgot the promise and the covenant he had made with his brothers , and he forgot what he was looking for, continuing all his life to go to libraries to read, read, and read.

The fourth brother tried to find God by listening to the Masters who were said to work on earth. Then he began to go all over the earth and in every place where he felt there was a Teacher he sat at his feet and listened to what he said; but listen, listen and listen no Master ever managed to communicate his certainty in the existence of a God, and, in the end, the fourth brother - struck by a particular Master who knew how to touch his inner chords - wore the cassock of the order of this Master and entered his congregation.

The fifth brother went to seek proof of the existence of God around the world and through the customs of men. So he followed the trade, followed the finance, followed the folklore, followed everything that concerned man and, little by little, he became more and more introduced into the circles of humanity "that matters", so in the end he forgot about it. that he was looking for, in the face of the existence of the money that came to him from various parts.

The sixth brother went to seek proof of the existence of God in the great religions. He went wherever a head of a religion resided and consulted all the sacred texts; but no religion was able to tell him anything other than «God exists and you must believe him because I tell you io».

In the end, disappointed - also because time had passed and the date had come when he should have met with the other brothers on the market square - he returned to his city.
He arrived in the market square - at that silent hour - and waited for the other brothers to arrive but - wait, wait and wait - none of them arrived.

Night came and none of them arrived.
Then he began to ask those who passed by if anyone knew where his brothers might be, but no one seemed to know them.
Finally a passer-by said that he knew one who lived nearby. He got the address and went to this brother's house.

He thus arrived at a house with a large garden full of flowers and, sitting at the foot of a willow near the house, he found his seventh brother; there was a sweet and beautiful atmosphere around him, and the willow tree seemed to be covered with a myriad of fireflies; the moon - which was slowly waning - seemed to shine even more silver on that peaceful garden.

The seventh brother smiled and said, "Brother come forward, I've been waiting for you."
The other approached exclaiming: "My brother, certainly you God have found him."
"Yes, I found it." He answered the seventh brother.
"And who was your Master?"
"I have not had Masters."

«But where did you find it: on top of the mountains, at the bottom of the sea, in ancient wisdom, in religions, among humanity… where did you find it?
"In none of these things." Said the seventh brother.
"But tell me then: how did you find God?"

“It's simple: I have lived my life normally; I just - whenever I could - sat under this willow and listened to what the wind whispered. "
The sixth brother, while the younger brother was smiling at him, tried to understand as best he could what the other had told him but, not having understood, he bowed his head and walked away in the morning.

Of this first meeting, and only of this, the recording of the intervention of the Guides is not available; below is a summary edited by the participants.

Readings for the interior: every day, a short spiritual reading of the Ifior Circle and of the Florence 77 Circle, on Whatsapp.

First of all our heartfelt thanks to Serena and Gian Carlo for the help they give us with their very valid one commentary in the book "Fables in the Shadow"! This comment is our "North Star" that guides us in navigation!

Thus "underpinned", we began the cycle with the reading of the long "Fable of the 7 Brothers" (subtitled: The approach to teaching), and we deduced that, at a certain moment in life, each of us feels the need to give, or at least to try to give, answers to the Great Questions that urge us inside: why do I exist? Is there an end? Does God exist? Where is it?
After having spoken, albeit from a bird's eye view, of the symbolism of the number 7 (the 7 planes of existence, etc.), we have faced what the Fable intends to teach us.

Therefore, in the moment of pain, that is, after being orphaned, 7 brothers decide to go in search of God, each on their own.
In fact, the way of research is always individual; no one can walk it for us!
Having made an appointment "at a given time of a given day of a given year in the market square" of the town, the 7 set out on their adventure.

The first and second brothers seek God in a distant place: one at the top of the Himalayas, the other in the depths of the sea. But their search is in vain: instead of God, they find death.
God is therefore not a well-defined Being, living in a specific place!

The third brother looks for him in a concept, that is, he rationally abstracts him and gives himself all to the readings. Losing sight of the initial thrust, he will spend his life in libraries, he will read, he will become cultured and wise, but he will not meet God.
Indeed, God is not an abstract concept.

The fourth brother seeks him from the Masters, but no Master can communicate the certainty of the existence of God. Attracted, however, by one of the Masters, with whom he feels in harmony, he decides to follow him.

The fifth brother goes in search of God among men; he dives into everything about man, he knows the people who "count" and makes a lot of money, completely forgetting what was the object of his search for him.
God is certainly not in material success and money.

The sixth brother looks for him in the great religions, but he finds himself, perplexed and embittered, before the stumbling block of dogmas! Disappointed, and since he was approaching the end of the time limit for the appointment, he decides to return to his country, to meet with the other brothers. But ... surprise !: at the appointment in the Market square he does not find anyone!
After having waited a long time and having inquired from the neighbors, without any result, a passer-by (a messenger? The Spirit Guide?) Informs him that a brother lives nearby.

At this point we all wondered why the seventh brother never showed up for the appointment. Out of rudeness? Did the sixth brother have to exercise patience? For a long time we have dwelt on patience, since, as we know, exercising patience always causes considerable annoyance! Going to the house of the seventh brother, the sixth finds him sitting under a willow, in a garden from which he releases a magical feeling of harmony and serenity.

Of course, the garden reflects the deep inner joy of the brother who lives there!
Then God, he will certainly have found it! The sixth brother has no doubts, so much so that he apostrophes him saying: «Brother, you certainly have found God»!

Do you know the reason the seventh brother didn't show up for the appointment?
Master Moti, during the meeting following the discussion (of which, unfortunately, no recorded documentation remains) clarified our ideas, as always: since the seventh brother had found God and was already immersed in the Absolute, he knew perfectly well that only one brother would return, but he also knew that he needed a… further stroll to get to where he was expected, that is, to reach understanding.

Having arrived at the point, we have drawn the conclusions on what the Fable points out to us.
All the ways are passable (in one or many incarnations) but the right way to take to reach the encounter with God is only that… to look for him in our interiority!
Of course, since the Divine Spark is deep within each of us, where else should we go to seek it, God?
This discovery is communicated to the sixth brother, in all simplicity, with the following words: "I have lived my life normally, only - whenever I could - I sat under this willow and listened to what the wind whispered".

Speaking of the willow, why right under a willow, did we ask ourselves? Perhaps the willow, with its weeping and enveloping branches, offers a vivid image of "interiority", we ventured.

The discovery, however, does not appear so clear to the sixth brother.
He listens, but does not understand and starts searching again - concludes the fable - in the morning. The symbol of the morning means "birth", therefore certainty that the search will be fruitful, even if, of course, it will involve sweat and effort.

We then slipped into the shoes of the brother-researcher. How will he face the search, having in his "ears", even if not understood, the message transmitted to him by his brother?
This message first of all highlights the importance, indeed the indispensability, of the experience of physical life: "I have lived my life normally", and the need for pauses for reflection (not necessarily so frequent: "only whenever I could") , very important, as they serve to re-elaborate the stimuli received from the experience and consequently, to increasingly qualify the experience itself.

  1. It reminded me of my life 10 years ago before I knew the path….
I too would sit for hours under a willow in the countryside

  2. "Only whenever I could"
    This statement is striking

Sometimes the frenzy of reaching understandings can lead to imposing inconclusive forcing.

In the right balance of a journey, the need arises spontaneously to stop, to listen, to analyze the experience…. Whenever possible. And that possible, we are sure that it is what is needed, what is necessary, what is right.

  3. This fable is illuminating for the ways in which each conducts their research according to the level of understanding achieved.
For the narrative scheme and the message it refers me to the parable of the sower whose seed falls on different terrains.

  4. When I read the explanations of fairy tales, it surprises me how many details I have underestimated.
A training to go beyond the obvious.
